More than half of all MMORPGs make their debuts in countries somewhere in Asia. Connecting to these games from the Western hemisphere can be quite a hassle due to the sheer distance and often times due to region-based IP blocks. In the past decade, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) have become such a wide-spread tool, especially to MMO gamers. Through them, it’s possible for anyone to play games from anywhere in the world. ExitLag is one of a handful of game VPNs that I use to access and play dozens of MMOs coming out in South Korea. For a few bucks, this software has fast connections specifically for MMOs from all over the world.
Peria Chronicles Releases Two New Kirana Combat Gameplay Feature Videos Prior To Upcoming Closed Beta In Korea
Nexon has released two new Peria Chronicles feature trailers showcasing the combat style of the Kiranas Triven and Tominia. Kiranas are powerful beings that form contracts with humans to lend them their powers. They come in different shapes and sizes. In the game, some Kiranas are in conflict with humans and others fight alongside them. This is the cornerstone of the combat system in Peria Chronicles. Some Kiranas can be summoned, some can aid players as weapons and some can do both. Watch the two trailers below to see them in action.
The first Korean closed beta for Peria Chronicles is set to launch on May 9th. The beta will last for just four days until May 12th. Those with verified Korean Nexon accounts and Korean phone numbers can sign up for a chance to be chosen to participate in the testing the game. Sign ups began on April 18th and will end on May 2nd. Let’s hope that this testing phase will not be under NDA so that we can see actual gameplay footage of the current state of the game and the experience that Peria has to offer.
MORDHAU is a first and third person multiplayer melee slasher set in medieval times where you can take part in 64-player brawls, castle sieges and small-scale battles. The game was successfully crowd-funded over two years ago on Kickstarter with nearly $300,000 in pledges toward the original $80,000 goal. It will be available for purchase on Steam on April 29th.
Smilegate has announced the latest class addition to Lost Ark. The close-range damage dealer dubbed “Lance Master” is the first class to arrive since the game’s launch in Korea back in November of 2018. The heavy-hitting, tornado summoning lance wielder is able to switch between two stances to form different styles of combos.
Lance Master will arrive and wreck havoc in the Korean servers on April 24th. Players can take part in a pre-registration event to obtain special consumables and other bonus items.
Snail Games will have a new survival MMO to offer in two weeks! A new publishing division called Wandering Wizard has been announced to bring the new ‘Outlaws of the Old West’ to gamers world-wide through the Steam platform. The open world sandbox survival game is developed by Virtual Basement and aims to offer “the ultimate Western experience”.
Outlaw of the Old West is set in the Old American Wild West of the 19th century. The game will offer role-playing, PvE and PvP features, a morality system, and a player-driven economy.
Nexon has sent word about the launch of its latest mobile MMO, AxE: Alliance vs Empire for Android and iOS devices. The game features a classic MMORPG experience with the basics of storyline quests, an explorable open world, dungeons, raids, epic bosses, and PvP modes. Players will be able to participate in massive 150-player battlefields and 4 vs 4 arenas. Check out the video below to see a sample of the game’s combat in the Frost Zilas Raid dungeon.
Bless Online is set to release a new content update that will open up the ‘Urdaata War Fortress’ dungeon. On February 20th, 10-player raid groups will be able to challenge the new level 50 dungeon and take on fiery bosses such as Corrupted Aelia, Ikichi, Lava Maglam, and the final boss, Karata. The dungeon can grant players with powerful rare and heroic gear and items, but it has a limit of one entry per week.
According to Steam Charts, Bless Online’s playerbase is currently hanging at 635 average players, which is nearly at the same level as its all-time low in September 2018 when it was still a buy-to-play title. The game managed to catch the attention of some players when it launched as a free-to-play title at the end of October, but the hype seemed to have quickly faded. Perhaps Bless Online’s Urdaata Fortress raid will cause another bump in players, but something tells me it will not be enough to break the game’s current downward slope in population. Keep in mind that Bless Online’s English global version is only playable through Steam.
KoG Games has announced some details for the upcoming closed beta test of KurtzPel, the action-combat PvP-heavy anime MMO on Steam. The game’s global closed beta will begin on February 20, 2019 and end on February 24, 2019 (5 days in total). It was initially announced that 2 keys will be distributed per registered e-mail, but due to the large number of registrants for the CBT, only 1 key per registered player will be sent.
Those chosen to beta testers will receive their keys on February 13th. To sign up, you’ll have to register on the official KurtzPel site. You may want to hurry if you’re aiming to play during the upcoming CBT, since registrations have been open since the beginning of this month.
